Chaos at Howe Community Park Results in 4 Shot in the Arden-Arcade Area of Sacramento

Sacramento authorities are probing a shooting that occurred Saturday evening at Howe Community Park while authorities were breaking up an unsanctioned gathering of hundreds of attendees.

Before the Gunfire

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were first called to Howe Community Park at about 6:30 PM after learning of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. Soon after, a second call came in concerning a potential altercation taking place at Howe Park.

The Dispersal and Shooting

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies worked to disperse the crowd by surrounding the park and announcing over their public address systems ordering the crowd to vacate the area. Around 15 minutes were given for attendees to disperse.

At the height of the dispersal effort that 20 to 25 gunshots were discharged. The shots sparked chaos as hundreds ran. Officers wasted no time in searching for victims.

Those Who Were Hit

In total, four gunshot victims were identified as having gunshot wounds. The shooting victims — consisting of one woman and three men all believed to be in their 20s — were transported to hospitals in the Sacramento area. Doctors and nurses confirmed that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one person's injuries were considered minor. Thankfully, all four were in stable condition.

Sacramento Metro Fire arrived on scene and provided medical assistance the injured at the park.

Evidence at the Scene

The bulk of the shooting was determined to have happened near Cottage Way near the local Home Depot on the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Investigators located extra shell casings throughout the Cottage Way area. Projectile impacts were identified in the iron fence alongside the nearby Home Depot. The physical evidence indicated that at least one of the shooters had been firing southward from Cottage Way toward the Home Depot store. The nearby Home Depot was secured under a brief lockdown during the incident. Crime scene technicians and detectives continued working for hours.

Suspect Vehicle Located

Reports confirmed over police scanner frequencies established that a Kia connected to the shooting was intercepted in an area within Solano County. Four detainees were stopped and detained. Sacramento law enforcement were sent to retrieve the detainees to collect the individuals for further questioning. Video that was reviewed showed that there were two gunmen.
